The new editor of “Thoughts and Ideas

Nice to meet you all!
My name is Burk. I’m the new editor of “Thoughts and Ideas”.
I am from and still live in Germany. I work as a computational linguist full-time but my passion is writing. I am also an avid designer and web developer.

Topics I write about include tech, social media, fashion & menswear, life lessons, writing & blogging, pop culture, marketing, or anything that pops into my head.

I’ve been writing on Medium for a few months now. My stories have been featured in great publications like The Startup, Better Marketing, Curious, Geek Culture, Illumination, Adventures…

Although they’re painstakingly obvious, I used to neglect these for the longest time too

Grooming… I feel like a lot of men think grooming is a feminine thing and therefore makes them less manly. That’s bullsh**, of course. I pretty much guarantee you that every attractive man you’ve seen in Hollywood has at least a basic grooming routine in place. Let’s take a look at 5 grooming tips for men!

#1 Get a haircut… regularly

Said it before and I’ll say it again: A haircut is one of the easiest ways to instantly look fresh, stylish, and presentable. In these days, it’s hard to get a regular cut. So this tip might be hard to follow right now. I…

A collection of stories about all things Apple.

This won’t be the only redesigned iMac this year

Disclaimer: I don’t find the new 24” iMac ugly. But apparently, many of you do. That’s totally fine. You’ll get another new iMac later this year. Just wait!

April event 2021

As you might know, yesterday Apple unveiled a few new products at their spring event. AirTag, new iPad Pros, an upgraded Apple TV 4K, and yes the new and extremely colorful iMac. This 24” version comes with the M1 chip that already powers the latest generations of MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini. And while many people thought the iMac would get a more powerful M1X chip, the M1 does make…

If you neglect this important hierarchy

The most valuable asset of a blogger is high-quality content. Wouldn’t you agree? This is why people love your articles. As they should! But high-quality content is not the most important aspect of being a blogger. Not at first! What is it, then? Let’s explore!

High-quality content is not enough if…

Before I answer, let me tell you a story: I had a friend. He was an outstanding writer. His stories were well written, insightful, entertaining, and authentic. With a bit of humor here and there. He could have easily been a popular full-time blogger. But he isn’t. Why not? …

Now is the time to start writing about these topics

Medium has a trending section, did you know that? You’ll find an excerpt of that on your homepage. There is also a whole section devoted to popular stories. In this article, however, I want to get into the most trending tags and topics on Medium 2021. Let’s begin!

What’s a tag anyway?

I hope you know. But if you don’t, tags are a key aspect of any Medium story. A tag is basically a topic that you assign to your story. You can choose up to 5. You’ll do that in the top right corner within the Medium editor under “Change tags”.

Potentially the most underrated missing feature in web design

I’ve run into this issue countless times. And I am not even a full-time web developer. I do this for fun. But the absence of this feature is blatantly obvious. Or is it just me? Let’s explore!

HTML5 is awesome

Let me start this post with a quick disclaimer: HTML5 is awesome! So is CSS. I have no complaints about the general state of web technologies and web development. What we’re nowadays able to do with only HTML and CSS is outstanding, compared to even a few years back when much of this was merely possible through Javascript or other technologies.

To the point

In all…

I recently wrote a quick post on “Why you should be writing on Medium right now (2021)”. It was quite well-received and I got a lot of questions on that topic. In this post, I want to go over a few things any new writer on Medium should do.

#1 Apply for the Medium Partner Program

Don’t worry too much about designing your profile or writing the perfect “about you” bio in the beginning. You’ve got plenty of time for that. What you should be doing right away: Applying to the Medium Partner Program. This sounds way more complicated than it is basically. The set-up consists of…

Yeah, not the typical “easy way to earn 10K” post, not yet

I’m not making fun of all these posts I read online that promise ways to earn thousands a month while working only a few hours. I’m really not. If anything, I’m jealous. Who wouldn’t want to be that guy or gal? I am not that guy. Not yet.

Are these stories even real?

First question I ask myself all the time. Maybe you did, too. Reading these headlines makes you wonder… or doubt:

  • “How to earn 9K a month from writing”
  • “Here’s how I made 10K in a month from my newsletter”
